The benefits of having bore water on your farm

Bore water is found in underground water storage referred to as aquifers and can be accessed by drilling a bore to the aquifer. Bore water on farm can be of two types: deep bore water and shallow bore water. A deep bore is usually around 20 meters deep, and the soil above it acts as a filter of any contamination and hence provides more quality water. Thin layers of soil protect a shallow bore and therefore is, less deep than the deep bore, and the water from this bore can be easily accessed.

Uses of bore water

Human health is of deep concern, and since bore water is believed to be contaminated, its uses have been limited to irrigation of the garden or large farms, washing cars and clothes, and flushing toilets.

Steps on getting bore water

• The first thing to do is obtain a permit from the Department of Water, Land, and Biodiversity Conservation. There are locations with permanent or temporary restrictions on the construction of bores.
• After that, you should select a location far from sources of pollution and call on a qualified driller to test the presence of aquifers in the place you have chosen. If there are no aquifers, they should help you locate another possible position.
• After locating the place, it is advisable to get the bore installed by a licensed water bore driller. This is to avoid accidents and ensure that the environment is still conserved.

• Water can be used to irrigate crops during the dry seasons. Whether dry or wet seasons, the bore water is always there hence it will ensure that your crops have sufficient water during the dry periods when the rainfall levels are too low.

This raises people’s living standards since it will see to it that there is always enough food all year round.

• After treatment and assessment from the Drinking water guideline, it could be used for livestock watering. Its presence in places like ranches is of great importance because it will see that many livestock does not starve out of lack of water while still saving the other sources of water for human consumption.
• Its presence is also essential in places where there are no other water sources for human consumption. It could be used as the only alternative. Human life is delicate, and it should take everything to maintain it. Hence, this could be the only option, but after treatment, testing and approval, it is good enough for human consumption.
• Its importance also comes up as it can act as a saving agent. This is where it could be used to wash clothes and cars and flush toilets to save water from other sources for cooking and drinking.

Bore water in one’s farm is of great necessity and should not be neglected. Instead, campaigns and seminars should be occasionally held to educate the people of its importance and how they can use it to their benefit while still ensuring that their health is at the frontline.
