Why a mosquito survives a raindrop hit

mosquitoResearch shows that a mosquito can endure the collision from a raindrop. There are many things that make the insect to survive the hit. The insect has many characteristics that may enable it survive. Human beings may survive a collision by a vehicle but the chances are very low. The insect features enable the survival rate to be high higher.

There are many characteristics that may enable the insect to endure the accident. This may include the fact that it has a very light weight. The raindrop usually moves faster due to its huge capacity. The momentum may not be transferred to the little insect and thus makes the insect to ride the raindrop. Therefore, the insect is able to separate itself from the raindrop before it hits on the ground. This reason makes the survival rates to be high for the insect. This was urged by engineer David HU of the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta.

Further research shows that the insect takes a free flight rather than the actual collision. The studies revealed how some insect’s existence may have been for the purpose of taking the gain of the flight. This study was done to understand how fly animals endure the turbulences when such instances occur.

The study continued showing that actually the insect has its own tai chi that enables it to survive. This means that immediately the insect collide with the raindrop it does not battle back. It moves with the raindrop something that helps it stabilize the speed level of the drop. The scientists discovered that the raindrop may be more than the mass of the insect by 50 times and thus an advantage that will enable it to endure the situation.

The water accelerations are usually of about 100 to 300 times the force of gravity and thus mean that the speed of the moving drop is very high. The insect may experience a very hard time as this might be very dangerous ride due to the high level of the speed of the moving water drops. Therefore, must maintain that speed for it to survive the collision or the wild ride. Also, the jumping fleas might be surviving the situation with an acceleration of 130 times on the earth’s magnitude.

The scientists discovered that the insect can survive the situation more safely and quickly that any fly insect. The reason behind this is the fact that it has small mass. The small masses allow them to survive and fly through the raindrops something that other insects cannot. The small masses can be disadvantage to the insect too when encountered by strong winds.

The mosquito survival rates during heavy rainfall are quite high due to the light weight and small mass it has. The scientist discovered this through several experiments which might be difficult tasks for them. During wet weathers the insect survives best than any other animal. The study revealed that the insect cannot survive in strong winds due to the same small mass that enable it to survive in the rains seasons.
