Some Solutions for Oily Skin Care

Oily skin can be a difficult thing to control for many people, and often the myths of why one suffers from oily skin are widely believed to be true. Advices for treating oily skin include watching what one eats to using certain skin care products, leaving one confused and frustrated when some methods just don't seem to work. Separating fact from fiction is the first step in understanding, and ultimately, controlling oily skin.

Eating chocolate or other sweets does not cause oily skin or acne. However, over-consumption of iodine in the diet is believed to be one culprit in aiding the body in creating more oil in the skin. Reducing the intake of iodized salt and fish can possibly help control oily skin.

Using water-based cosmetics and avoiding lotions and cleansers that can clog pores or dry out the skin are other ways to help control oily skin. Some oil based cosmetics and lotions can clog pores while some cleansers can be so harsh as to dry out the skin. This can also lead to acne flare-ups. Remove make-up before bedtime to help open up pores and to remove excess oil and do not apply oily or greasy lotions to skin afterward.

Stress can be a huge factor in causing oily skin to get worse and in turn causing acne flare-ups. Stress affects how our bodies function on so many levels, and our skin is not immune to this problem. Learning some relaxation techniques may help reduce stress and keep stubborn oily skin under control when used in conjunction with a regular skin care routine.

There is no ultimate cure for oily skin. Genetics is the primary reason for why some people have oilier skin than others. With the right routine, however, it can be better controlled and less problematic.
