Every parent aims to give only the best for their babies. According to research and the society, the best choice is breastfeeding, no more, no less. Because of this intense belief in breastfeeding, the introduction of artificial feeding has been like a crime. Contrary to what others believe in, artificial feeding has nothing to do with breastfeeding. It does not aim to ruin the importance of breastfeeding, nor even bother to compete with it. People and the authorities should change how they look on artificial feeding.
Artificial exists because of the fact that nothing is sure in this world. The best choice does not always mean it can deliver successfully to all people, all the time. Breastfeeding, no matter how great it can be, cannot always be done. This is why artificial feeding exists. What are these circumstances wherein breastfeeding isn’t possible?
1. Babies born without their mothers – there are a lot of babies out there who were abandoned by their mothers. Some babies have mothers who passed away.
2. Mothers who have illnesses and diseases – there are diseases which can be transmitted from the mother to the babies through breastfeeding. Nobody would like their baby to be at risk for some illnesses.
3. Mothers who do not have sound mind – there are some mothers who are not psychologically healthy and safe to carry their babies. She can be a threat to herself and others.
It is best that when parents decide to go for artificial feeding, they are already well aware of its risks. An informed choice is always better than not knowing your stand. Parents must be informed as well of the benefits of breastfeeding over artificial feeding. Having knowledge about these things can minimize the guilt or the pressure that parents can feel when they cannot give breast milk to their infant.
